Over a span of six days, May 6 鈥 May 11, students, faculty, and staff gathered together as a school family to take a break from classes and studying. During the week, thirteen students shared the ways God has brought them 鈥渙ut of the darkness.鈥

PUC hosts a week of prayer every quarter. Something is different about the week during spring quarter, because fellow students share their faith. 鈥淚 really like that each student has a different story to tell, so it鈥檚 really relatable to a lot of people,鈥 said sophomore Alana Muller. 鈥淸The speakers] are going through issues that college students are going through. I really like that.鈥

Students shared amazing stories of God鈥檚 faithfulness as He pulled them out of dark periods in their lives. Shared themes of faith, surrender, and love ran through these stories. A pivotal point in nursing student Tad Worku鈥檚 journey was when he surrendered control. 鈥淚 was no longer writing my own story,鈥 Worku remembered. 鈥淔rom that point on, I said, 鈥楪od, You know what, whatever You want to write in my life, whatever that means, the pen is Yours. You can write whatever story You want.鈥欌

For Halstyn Hart, one of PUC鈥檚 student chaplains, that moment came when she realized that her mistakes didn鈥檛 define her. 鈥淚t finally clicked for me that I鈥檓 worth a lot,鈥 recalled Hart. 鈥淲e鈥檙e all worth a lot.鈥

Incoming SA Religious Vice President Adam Washington spoke for vespers. 鈥淭o be honest, PUC, I鈥檓 still in the process of coming out of darkness,鈥 he said, 鈥渁nd I think I will always be in the process of coming out of darkness.鈥 He shared with students that it鈥檚 okay not to have all the answers. 鈥淚f you could figure out God, He probably wouldn鈥檛 be God anymore,鈥 Washington said, recalling a point Chaplain Laffit Cortes made in the last sermon of last school year.

Students appreciated the stories their peers shared, and the transparency they were willing to demonstrate. 鈥淚 think students are refreshing,鈥 noted sophomore John Goorhuis, 鈥渂ecause in a school setting, we鈥檙e used to being told 鈥榳hat is,鈥 especially if you鈥檙e in science classes. So to have someone like Adam say, 鈥業 don鈥檛 know everything, I don鈥檛 know most of everything, but I know that this is good,鈥 is refreshing.鈥

The week closed with four student baptisms, two Friday night and two on Sabbath.
