鈥淭his was a hard year,鈥 said 2017-18 student association president Megan Weems to a packed Dauphinee Chapel. 鈥淚t was already a transition year with new administration, and then a few weeks into the school year, the valley caught on fire.鈥

Weems was addressing the 海角视频 student body at the final Colloquy event of the year, focused on the year鈥檚 theme, 鈥淔amily.鈥

鈥淐hange takes a while,鈥 she continued. 鈥淧UC has a lot of things to improve on, as we all know, but things are going up from here. We鈥檝e laid the foundation and we鈥檙e making headway toward something better.鈥

Weems thanked her 2017-18 student association team for loving the campus and demonstrating how a family should behave.

鈥淚 saw it in their hearts, in the way they interacted with people,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hey just love. And that鈥檚 what PUC needed. I was incredibly blessed, and I hope and pray that in something someone did or said at some point this year made you feel a little bit of that heart.鈥

鈥淭he SA is you guys, too,鈥 Weems added. 鈥淚t鈥檚 not just the eight or nine people elected; you鈥檙e all part of the Student Association. Thank you for this year.鈥

Kenzie Hardy, incoming SA president, addressed the room by thanking everyone who participated in the SA election and placed their trust in the incoming team.

鈥淟ike Megan and her team have said all year, we are a family,鈥 Hardy said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e kinda dysfunctional, pretty large, and very diverse, but a family nonetheless,鈥 she added with a grin. 鈥淚 hope everyone here will discover, if you haven鈥檛 already, that this place is your home.鈥

Hardy also encouraged everyone who would be here in coming years to welcome newcomers so they, too, feel at home.

鈥淲e have two goals for the coming year,鈥 Hardy announced. 鈥淔irst, to strive for continuous improvement; and second, to embrace and accept each other, and continue to push for diversity to be honored and celebrated.鈥

With that, Hardy introduced her team, the Student Association officers for the 2018-19 school year:

  • Amanda Musvosvi, Executive VP
  • Joseph Jordan, Financial VP
  • Fatima Sosa, Social VP
  • Daniel Arriaza, Religious VP
  • Desiree Mansilla, PR/Marketing
  • Alex Kurtz, Video Editor

Weems joined Hardy on-stage after this, and together they invited the outgoing and incoming officers to the platform, where Weems鈥 team passed the torch by honoring Hardy鈥檚 team with SA officer pins.

鈥淚t鈥檚 hard to represent so many people,鈥 Weems admitted, 鈥渂ut we pray and hope that we鈥檙e doing it in a way that suits everyone best and makes everyone feel like they belong.鈥

Following the event鈥檚 theme of gratitude, Alma Musvosvi, 2018-19 SA executive VP, began addressing the concept of 鈥渇amily.鈥 Acknowledging that not everyone comes from a happy family 鈥渇ull of love and smiles,鈥 Musvosvi pointed out that the word 鈥渇amily鈥 doesn鈥檛 necessarily conjure up a place for everyone to which they wish to return.

鈥淲hen we chose this as our theme this year, we wanted to reshape what anyone鈥檚 idea of 鈥榝amily鈥 is,鈥 she said. 鈥淲hether it鈥檚 a bad or wonderful place you come from, family is more than the people you鈥檙e born to, or your siblings or your grandparents. It鈥檚 greater than that. It鈥檚 also the people you form into your community called PUC. We didn鈥檛 end up in the same family by birth, but we ended up in the same family here. Let鈥檚 continue that legacy.鈥

As an end-of-the-year celebration, the SA officers had arranged for free donuts, lawn games, and a photo booth outside of Winning Hall, and ended Colloquy early so students would have time to enjoy the activities before their 11 o鈥檆lock classes.

鈥淭his is two years of leaders,鈥 Weems concluded, gesturing to the two groups of officers at the front of the room. 鈥淭wo years of going from the old PUC way to a new, better, and brighter future for PUC. I鈥檓 excited to see what this new team does, because they have a great amount of heart, and any good thing comes from having a lot of heart, love, compassion, and hard work.鈥

To close the final Colloquy of the year, Daniel Grigore, Campus Chronicle editor for the 2017-18 school year, offered a prayer.

鈥淭hank you for another year of life, another year of school, and another year of change,鈥 he prayed. 鈥淩enew us, forgive us, help us be better people, and help us to spread your love wherever we go. Amen.鈥
